Until now, many businesses used non-geographic, revenue generative 084, 087 and 090 telephone numbers

These numbers allowed companies to give their businesses a national presence, as well as earning revenue to subsidise the cost of their call centres and customer support teams.

However; regulatory changes – in effect June 2014 – are going to force companies to stop using premium rate telephone numbers for post sale customer support. This is going to affect a major change on ongoing costs for many organisations.

You still keep your revenue generative numbers for pre-sales lines. But – Premium Rate Numbers for post sales customer support will need to be replaced with standard rate 01, 02, 03 or 0800 Free Phone Numbers.

The 03 number range provides a low cost alternative to free phone 0800 numbers whilst still having the advantage of being ‘memorable’.

From the consumers’ perspective, 03 numbers are included in their landline and mobile call plans and cost no more than the standard national rate.
